Sometimes you’re at Rincon. Sometimes you’re at C Street in Ventura or a smaller Malibu swell where the wall doesn’t stretch forever and the wave is asking for something different. On those days, you don’t need a board that’s constantly projecting you forward. You need a board that pivots, that lets you work the pocket without that unrelenting drive down the line.
So Ian built the same board twice. Same foiled rails, same light blended concave, same sensitivity and speed. But with a squaretail instead of the Carlita’s pintail — a tail that lets you pivot where a pin would carve, that slows the board down just enough to match the wave’s pace instead of constantly chasing ahead of it.
